Research
I am currently working on testing and optimization of an optical protein sensor that will eventually be integrated into a microfluidics system. I am currently using fluorescence microscopy and a CCD camera to image the presence of latex beads, which in turn indicate the presence of a protein, IL-8. I will determine the resolution of optical detection using the current sized beads and work on optimizing the size of the beads, if necessary. I will also optimize specific parameters to increase the signal-to-noise ratio and, hence, the sensitivity of the sensor. Later on, I will work on electrochemical detection of DNA and the design, characterization, and automation of a microfluidic system.
